The foundations of faith in the Thompson family grew in Norway with our Lutheran ancestors. The boys' grandparents raised their families rooted in their Lutheran heritage. John and Margaret Thompson continued that tradition. All four sons were baptized as infants at Storla Lutheran church.

In the Thompson family Sunday began with Sunday School and worship. The family entered the sanctuary in order by age and were seated in "their" pew. The boys learned proper church behavior from an early age and knew to avoid testing the waters. The Storla community was small and close. Many relatives also worshiped at Storla Lutheran.
Sundays were the favorite day of week. After church the extended family and frequently the pastor and his family gathered for one of Margaret's delicious meals. After lunch the children were free to play all afternoon.
Church picnics, homecoming, and other special events left treasured memories. The boys looked forward to Vacation Bible School and Bible camp each summer.
John Thompson and all four of his boys were confirmed at Storla Lutheran. As high school students, the boys were active in the youth group. Oscar and Thomas sang in the choir.
